In der Literatur findet diese Pflanze nicht nur in einschlägigen botanischen Werken Erwähnung, bekannt wurde sie sicherlich auch durch das Drama "Die Kameliendame" von Alexandre Dumas d. J. . Dort durfte der Protagonist seiner Angebeteten ausschließlich Kamelien schenken, womit er schließlich auch ihre Gunst erwarb. Aber es wäre ja kein anständiges Drama, wenn das Ganze am Ende nicht den Bach runter ginge....
Daher wenden wir uns lieber dieser anmutigen Blüte hier zu. Diese wunderschöne Kamelie namens "Princess Clotilde" ist eine gefüllte rotweiß gestreifte Blüte der Art Camellia japonica aus der Pflanzengattung der Teestrauchgewächse. Die Züchtung ist um 1840 in Italien entstanden und benannt nach der Prinzessin Clotilde von Savoyen, die später einen Cousin Napoleons III. heiraten durfte oder eher musste. Ob die Namensgebung aufgrund von Schönheit seitens der Prinzessin oder eher aus opportunistischen Gründen erfolgte, ist nicht überliefert. ;-)

In literature, this plant is not only mentioned in relevant botanical works, it certainly also became known through the drama "The Lady with the Camellias" by Alexandre Dumas the Younger. There, the protagonist was allowed to give only camellias to his beloved, which ultimately won him her favour. So we turn instead to this graceful flower here. This beautiful camellia called "Princess Clotilde" is a double red and white striped flower of the species Camellia japonica from the tea bush plant genus. It was bred in Italy around 1840 and named after Princess Clotilde of Savoy, who was later allowed, or rather forced, to marry a cousin of Napoleon III. Whether the name was given because of the princess's beauty or for opportunistic reasons is not known. ;-)
